Voices of our Past - April 11 to June 11, 2013

The Diefenbunker Museum is pleased to be launching Voices of our Past, as part of the Virtual Museums of Canada Exhibition featuring oral histories of former Canadian Forces Station Carp employees who worked at the Diefenbunker during its 33 year operation. This interactive exhibition features interviews and stories on daily life in the Diefenbunker and the atmosphere of the Cold War Era, but will also showcase special digital artifacts, including photos of the interviewees, period images of the Bunker and objects from our collection, which will truly serve to complete the story of the Diefenbunker.

For the first time, there is a generation of Canadians who were not alive during the Cold War. This exhibition will allow a new generation to hear from the employees of CFS Carp directly about life during the Cold War and the operations of an underground nuclear bunker.

Date: April 11 to June 11, 2013
Location: Cold War Gallery, 400 Level of the Diefenbunker

International Museum Day - Saturday, May 18th, 2013

International Museum Day has been celebrated around the world since 1977. This day is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society. The Diefenbunker certainly fits the bill as the structure itself was dedicated to the Continuity of Government, thus the development of Canadian society after nuclear warfare.

Museums enable us to discover our diverse heritage and help us to know who we are and what brings us together. Take the time to explore the Diefenbunker: Canada's Cold War Museum on International Museum Day!

Come tell us what you love about Museums with our special chalk activity to take place outside on the helipad. (Please note: Activity is weather dependant.)

Cost: General Admission, Free for Museum Members
