September 19, 2008—Diefenbunker announces Cold War SymposiumPress Release CARP, ON: Diefenbunker, Canada’s Cold War Museum, is proud to announce it will host Cold Culture: A Symposium on New Approaches to Cold War Research, Education and Expression. Concurrently, the Diefenbunker will unveil two new permanent exhibitions: Diefenbunker: Secrecy for Survival and Canada and the Cold War, as well as a Cold War Memorial. These events will take place at the Diefenbunker November 7, 8 and 9. Held at one of Canada’s most distinctive Cold War sites, the Cold Culture Symposium will bring together a broad, international range of professional scholars, artists, filmmaker, teachers, museum professionals and journalists who are involved in the exploration of themes in Cold War history, and who shape how the conflict is understood today. The weekend-long event, sponsored by the Canadian War Museum and the Brookstreet Hotel, will feature keynote speaker Dr. Christian Ostermann of the Cold War International History Project and guest speaker Francis Gary Powers, Jr. Other Canadian and international scholars and museums professionals will be speaking on a range of Cold War topics, and the conference will include the openings for the two new exhibitions and an inaugural ceremony at the Diefenbunker’s Cold War Memorial.
